seasick steve

a friend of mine named gavin - a terrific editor with a keen eye for both sentences & music, and though he'd add fashion to the list, on that point we're of divergent opinion - recently introduced anyone's guess to a bluesman from oakland named seasick steve.

seasick plays & sings dirty, electric, often rollicking hobo blues on a three stringed guitar. he's a former carney and a cowboy, a railjumper and a migrant worker, and his songs have the sort of hard-earned yet casual authenticity of lived experience. these blues, gang, may not have come easily, but they sure ain't hard to listen to.

the three tracks below, each of which come with the official a.g. stamp of recommendation, though especially the ballad "salem blues", are from steve's debut long player, dog house music.

seasick steve - cut my wings
seasick steve - salem blues
seasick steve - fallen off a rock

he maybe from oakland but seasick now calls norway home and plays especially big in the UK. check out this excellent video of steve performing "dog house boogie" on the jools holland show. if any of you out there live and die in england, make sure you check out seasick's website for upcoming gigs.
