a new ep by the connecticut band saint bernadette, whose promo materials really really want me to know that lead singer meredith dimenna has been compared favorably to shirley bassey, will come out on 4 march. this hot in the wake of their debut cd, in the ballroom, which came out last fall and on which dimenna really does sound like the kind of lady who said "for the most part, i'm just singing as hard as i can." (you can read a fairly good review of in the ballroom by dodge at m.o.k.b. here.)
most of the ep, though solid, doesn't quite inspire in the same way as in the ballroom. the title track and closer, "i wanna tell you something," a quick flash of guitar ballad with some nice harmonies, stands out on first listen for its simplicity, the change of pace:
