happy april fool's day, gang. no prank for you today (though if you're interested in a seminal literary trick from my childhood, check out this article by the late george plimpton on a mythical baseball prospect). what i do have is news from the little folksinger.
last fall ani difranco opened her own performance venue in a former church in downtown buffalo once ticketed for demolition and since renamed babeville. ani played a couple of shows to break in the new digs and now, today, has released a dvd, live at babeville, which features songs from both nights. from the little footage i've seen, the building - the structure, the stained-glass windows - looks absolutely beautiful and i'm willing to bet they were performances to match.
each of the songs below are included on the set list for the film, though they aren't actually recordings from either night. just a hint at what lays in wait for us.
ani difranco - napoleon (live)
ani difranco - not a pretty girl (live)
ani difranco - you had time (live)
you can pick up a copy of the new dvd here - and receive ten per cent off. or better yet, go and see the real thing: ani and her band will play a show at the fillmore on 8 april, followed the next evening by a city arts & lectures event, in which ani will be interviewed by former rolling stone contributing editor michael azerrad, at the palace of fine arts. tickets for the show here, the interview here.
