lyrics born :: everywhere at once

everywhere at once, the new album by berkeley rapper & producer lyrics born, his first of new material since 2005's terrific later that day, will be released this coming tuesday, 22 april. much of the album seems devoted to the celebration of, in order of importance, women and good times -- admirable if not novel ends, though it can feel, when listening through in one sitting, slightly repetitive. which isn't to say, of course, there aren't fun, worthwhile moments.

here's the first single, called "i like it, i love it" & including the refrain, "every time i get up on the microphone, i gotta dedicate a round to you girl, c'mon," as well as an a capella version of the song that lb released as part of a remix contest through jambase, interesting in the way it highlights his verbal dexterity and the skill with which these songs (and most rapped songs, generally) are carried out:

tucked towards the back of everywhere at once is a song that bring the party to a temporary halt. called "whispers," it's more spoken word & deals with the sudden loss of a best friend. at this early stage it's my clear favorite from the record for its intimacy & forthrightness.
