perennial favorite josh ritter has been playing concerts recently with classical violinist hilary hahn, including a recent performance at the met museum recorded and broadcast by npr. it's quite an interesting project, too, more a double-bill than anything else, and certainly no gimmick. both musicians play a handful of songs on their own, then the two of them together recreate both ritter's songs and classical pieces like nicolo paganini's "cantabile" - something ritter calls "the biggest musical summit of [his] life so far." the results of the collaboration, as you'll hear below in the duo's rendition of "girl in the war," are just lovely. have a listen:

you can stream the entirety of the concert thanks to npr, and anyone's guess certainly recommends that you do. you can catch ritter's tour dates over on his myspace page, and those of you in boston should make special note of his upcoming concert with the symphony orchestra next month. he'll also be touring with andrew bird for select dates this summer.
