rosa lee mcfall

"rosa lee mcfall" is probably a traditional song, though it first appeared, by some accounts, on an album (early bluegrass music) by charlie monroe. it's a simple enough folk & bluegrass tune written from the perspective of a man who's courted, wed and lost his life's love - "i've searched the wide world over / cities great and small / but i've never found another / like my rosa lee mcfall."

the song first started popping up in some of the grateful dead's acoustic sets in 1970, and was recorded and released as part of a live album from 1980 called reckoning. garcia also recorded a version with david grisman & tony rice on the so-called pizza tapes, named after the pizza delivery boy who legend has it stole a copy of the demos back in 1993 and set them loose upon the world.
