some scattered pieces

the excellent morning benders are giving away for free an ep of covers, the bedroom covers, with each of the seven tracks being debuted on different blogs favored by the band. today's installment, "pull up the roots" by the talking heads, can be found over at adrian's.

a hawk and a hacksaw, the buglarian folk-dance group, come to san francisco for a show next week, 21 july, at the independent, which all of you should consider attending. you can read a review by the times of their recent new york performance here.

okay, now a couple of more videos to share:
the first is another edition of derek waters's drunk history series, in which someone drinks a large portion of alcohol and then narrates an episode of history, which narration is then acted out (complete with hiccups, which always gets us). this episode features danny mcbride as george washington. we here at anyone's guess of course don't espouse wanton consumption of such poisonous substances unless supervised by a parent or guardian.

and secondly, joss whedon, creator of the buffy the vampire slayer and firefly television series, has put together a supervillain musical in three parts called dr. horrible's sing-along blog, featuring neil patrick harris as dr. horrible. the official synopsis goes something like this: "the story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he’s too shy to talk to." it's quite a bit of fun, really, and you should all hurry over to watch. last year's writer's strike inspired the project and it will only be available for a limited time. sort of. you can read about the master plan & the motivation behind the film here. and again, definitely go watch act I and act II; the third act will debut on saturday 19 july, and then the whole thing gets taken down sunday at midnight.
