deathbot, the nom de stage of singing songwriters r. mansfeld and joseph james & their revolving cast of friends (most from either san francisco or l.a.), have made available for free download their first lp, cold wind revival. it's a sort of americana for the electronic age, built on an acoustic guitar and piano, described on the band's website as "songs in the mix and vein of the indie, americana, and alt-country bands we grew up listening to," and, as might be expected, you can pretty much color us impressed. especially with the stellar "walk no more," in which highlights of a near-angelic sort underline the weary anger ("my feet they're all black and my eyes turned to grey but i'll dance on you fucks") and accentuate the revivalist spirit ("i've got a set of wings and i'll walk no more"). have a listen:
deathbot - walk no more
deathbot - bombs in bloom
if you like those, you can hear the rest of cold wind revival, along with two other, older eps, on the deathbot music page. or click here to watch the video of a subway performance of "bombs in bloom."
