slow food rocks

slow food rocks, a two-day outdoor music festival sponsored by slow food nation and celebrating the sustainable food movement (food that is "good, clean and fair"), comes to san francisco over labor day weekend, 30 & 31 august, and features several notable acts, including gnarls, the new pornographers, phil lesh, g-love and others.

it would seem to be inauspicious timing for another large festival, sandwiched between outside lands and treasure island, but if you can handle another this one supports a good cause: the promotion of, among other things, seed banks, local and traditional food, small-scale processing and personal gardening. (alice waters is one of the key figures in both this event and the american chapter of the slow food movement, which started as a push back against fast food.)

pricing & ticketing info for slow food rocks can be found here, but note that single day tickets are 20$ cheaper if purchased in advance. the three bands below all play on saturday.

gnarls barkley - going on

the new pornographers - these are the fables

ozomatli - como ves

Wow, hadn't heard about this. Pretty cool that they cobbled together bands like this for a cause.
