conor oberst visited the world cafe today to talk about and play a few songs from his new self-titled album with the mystic valley band. you can hear the entire thirty-minute interview and set, in which oberst discusses, among other things, writing songs, mainstream acceptance & accolades, veganism & eating locally, and politics, over here. of course if you just want to hear the songs, why then you've come to the right place. they're each fine, though our favorite of the three is probably "get-well-cards." points, too, for the locally-inspired "sausalito." "i got the reason 2" doesn't appear on conor oberst; for the story behind it, you'll have to listen to the interview.

during the last part of the interview (michaela majoun handles the questions), the political discussion, the conversation eventually turned to oberst's famous performance of "when the president talks to god" on leno, and leads to a replay of a live version of the song oberst played on world cafe back in 2005. that song (censored for radio) is here:

oberst and the mystic valley band will play the warfield on 24 october. info on that show and the rest of their tour dates can be found here. or listen to more of the new album here.
