listen up, gang: six-piece denton, tx band matthew and the arrogant sea, who've been taken under wing by members of midlake, have a terrific new full length album, family family family meets the magic christian, on the horizon. (28 october release.) if we had thumbs, well, they'd be sticking up.
featuring harmonized, 1970s style folk with suggestions of both sonic and lyric psychedelia ("you were wearing quite a number at the martian petting zoo, eating purple colored peanuts from my hippo-sized balloon") that remains buoyant despite layers of added texture, magic christian should have no trouble attracting a fair few fans. definitely give these fellows a listen.
matthew and the arrogant sea - pretty purple top hat
matthew and the arrogant sea - mock origami
nova posta, the new label started by eric pulido of midlake and robert gomez, will issue magic christian. to find out more, and to listen to more songs from matthew and the arrogant sea, head on over here.
