the living and the dead, the new album from jolie holland, arrives the first week in october (just around the corner, folks) and judging from the first single, "palmyra," it will be a worthy follow-up to 2006's excellent springtime can kill you.
locals will have a chance, we presume, to hear much of the new album in living color when holland stops over in her old hometown for a show at bimbo's 365 club on 15 october. (more info here.) for the rest of you, there are tour dates aplenty listed on her myspace page and, of course, the following sampler:

I love that soulful sound! She reminds ma a lot of Sara Bareilles, that soothing soulful sound. I like it. Sara Bareilles is that girl who sings "Lovesong" for those who don't know, check her out.
i'm sorry, but i think it's entirely blasphemous to compare jolie holland to the likes of sara bareilles. holland probably has more talent in her pinkie than bareilles could wish to have. it just stunned me to see that she was compared to a one hit wonder.
