san francisco electronic music festival

the 2008 s.f. electronic music festival (that's the ninth annual, for those of you scoring at home), which features performances by lineup of electro-acoustic musicians and sound artists, kicks off tomorrow, 3 september, and runs through sunday. not all of the varied sound explorations that fall beneath the umbrella of electronic music are for us - sorry glitch, industrial sounds and drone music but this is where we must part ways - though the intersection of electronics and acoustics can yield rich and sometimes surprising results. myrmyr, an oakland-based duo whose music incorporates field recordings, samples & programming into live instrumentation (cello, violin, piano, accordion, gezhong, etc), is one such example. here's a song from their debut album amber sea:

myrmyr - egle's escape

you can hear more samples amber sea here. myrmyr will play live as part of s.f.e.m.f. on friday night. tickets and the full program listing can be found here. all performances will be held at project artaud theater on florida street.
