the acoustic submarine double album of (alleged) rare outtakes and demos by the beatles is, in our mind, nothing more than a piffle. there is, however, one song contained therein with which we were not previously familiar, and for which we now have some measure of affection.
"mama, you've been on my mind" almost shouldn't count as a song but rather the promise of a song to come; the recording is spotty and the lyrics dip in and out. it's an evocation, not an act; the first stages of an emotion or an idea being translated into art. and that endears it to us all the more. have a listen below for a glimpse at the creative process.
