tUnE-YaRdS is the nom de musica of vermonter (or montrealer) merrill garbus, and there's a song on her album BiRd-BrAiNs (her only album; we think) with which we are currently incurably in love. the song is called "FIYA," a declarative, unabashed, fire-breathing, sweet, lo-fi and absolutely joyous revelation. be sure to stick around through the three minute mark, when the song transforms, when it decides to pick you up and carry you, broad-shouldered, bouncing off at speed.
tUnE-YaRdS - FIYA
there are other stellar songs on BiRd-BrAiNs, which you can order directly from merrill on the tUnE-YaRdS website for as little as one red cent, though the suggested donation is ten dollars.
